Unknown to the general public although recognized by his peers and institutions, Odon, born Guy Houdoin in 1940 at Le Mans, is devoted his first solo exhibition at the Dutko Gallery.
Entering Fine Arts at the age of 16, he began braiding in 1976 but after a heart attack that led him to the edge of death in 1997, he had to relearn everything and intensified his work. Using colorful colored kraft paper and other recycled materials, Odon weaves, braids, knots with colors, revealing spirals or snails, such as dream traps or mandalas. Indeed, Odon realizes his works as prayers and leads us into a dreamlike and colorful world. To these vibrant sculptures, are added a series of preparatory drawings (which he makes on Sunday) where we can read annotations that allow us to better understand his work.
Odon, “upset Spirals” at the Dutko Gallery – Ile Saint-Louis until February 13th.
