In Western media, Africa is often represented as a continent with many issues; such as civil wars, ethnics conflicts, starvation etc… It is however, impossible to talk about Africa without highlighting the vibrant artistic creativity that emanates from this continent. “African Catwalk” boldly showcases the African fashion industry and is the first book of its kind. It mainly shows incredible pictures of behind the scene catwalks taken in more than 15 African countries, between 2010 and 2015.
The Cape Town based Swedish photographer, Per-Anders Pettersson wanted to show a different image of this complex continent; but also its fast emerging fashion industry, often limited to animal and wax prints. This is an incredible work in which Per-Anders Pettersson delivers without any prejudices or stereotypes the creativity of African talents, and thus restoring the erroneous perception of this amazing multifaceted continent.
